Web Design and Development Skills |
Working with its esteemed partner, Reed Educational Services, HUCE is pleased to offer two Web-related certificate programs:
- Certificate for Proficiency in Web Design;
- Certificate for Proficiency in the Development of Web-based Applications
The courses in each program are short, focused, conveniently scheduled, taught by highly competent professionals, and inexpensive. In other words, our programs provide flexible but highly cost-effective opportunities for newcomers to break into the rapidly expanding field of Web design and for Web-oriented IT professionals to enhance their skills and to expand their career options.
Web Design ...
At the present time, Adobe's products are the preferred tools for most professional Web designers. Accordingly, HUCE offers an array of courses that cover Adobe's most popular applications -- Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash, GoLive, Illustrator, Pagemaker, Photoshop, and Premiere. Our other design courses cover generic technologies, i.e., HTML/XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Ajax.
Students who successfully complete design courses worth at least 25 CEUs (eight courses) will earn HUCE's Certificate of Proficiency in Web Design.
Students seeking this certificate are encouraged to take the following generic courses first, then the other more specialized courses: (i) Dreamweaver (CETK734), (ii) HTML/XHTML (CETK738), (iii) CSS (CETK740), and JavaScript (CETK742). All design courses are offered at least twice each semester, thereby making it possible for most students to obtain the design certificate in two semesters.

Web-based Applications ... On the server side, our courses present the most popular tools for creating the programs that power dynamic, data-driven Web applications: SQL, Java Server Pages (JSP), Cold Fusion, PHP, and ASP.NET (using VB.NET and C#).
Students who have already earned HUCE's Web Design Certificate and who successfully complete applications courses worth an additional 13 CEUs (four courses) will earn HUCE's Certificate of Proficiency in the Development of Web-based Applications. Most students will be able to complete these additional requirements in one semester.

HTML is the language of the web and what gives us all the ability to access the information regardless of the type of computer or types of applications we run. HTML is in the process of becoming XHTML, Extensible HyperText Markup Language. This new generation of markup language focuses on the description of what the text is. Using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to design the format and structure of your web pages can make your life as a web designer and web design maintainer much easier! CSS allows you to control the appearance of text, graphics and page layout for a single page or the entire site. If you decide later that you want to make a change to the design of the site you can change a few lines of CSS formatting and have the changes made without having to change the structure of the page.
