Information Technology for Seniors
Image for Information Technology for Seniors Nowadays people are living longer, working and learning in their later years. Accordingly, HUCE's Digital Learning Lab (DLL) proudly sponsors this group of courses that are designed to enable older PC users to learn how they can use the newest information technologies to enrich their lives.

In time, other courses that cover other topics of interest to older students will be added to the two courses listed below. At first, all courses will be offered in traditional face-to-face formats in one of HUCE's state-of-the-art computer labs. (Note: On-site presentations at other locations in the Washington, DC area, e.g., retirement communities, can be arranged.) Eventually, enhanced versions of all courses will be made available in a distance learning format so that older students will also have the option of taking them from the comfort of their own homes.

All of the courses in this group have two basic objectives: 1) to enable older students to discover how easy it is to use the newest information technologies; and 2) to show them how they can use these technologies for an amazingly wide range of purposes.

For example, some students will want to use these technologies to keep in touch with their children, grandchildren, and other friends and family via email, digital photos, and audio/video clips. Others will be delighted to discover the convenience and security of online shopping. Still others will be enthused by new options for becoming more active in local, state, and national politics. And others will be excited by new chances to pursue long-deferred academic interests. Of course, many will be pleased by the opportunities to keep up with the latest medical advances that will enable them to live even longer, healthier, and more satisfying lives.
