University Intensive English Program |
Do you have difficulty with writing assignments or taking exams? Do you have trouble understanding and keeping up with classes? This program of study is made up of three core classes: Grammar/Writing, Reading/Vocabulary and Listening/Speaking. This program also offers an optional test preparation course.
Students preparing for, or struggling with the rigors of university-level work will learn the techniques of essay writing with correct grammar, methods for improving reading speed and comprehension, vocabulary building, note-taking, presentation skills, study and test-taking strategies. Classes include word-processing, how to conduct library research, and the proper protocol needed for American classroom dynamics and group projects. |

Students are guided in the writing process to help them write a comprehensive research paper using proper analytical skills. This course builds on the skills taught in the Advanced Language Skills course. Students may expand on the research paper written for that course or develop another short research paper. In this course they learn how to do Web-based research as well as traditional library research. They also develop college level writing skills. At the end of the course students make oral/powerpoint presentations of their research papers.
